Where Have I Been?: Back to Blogging After a Year

So… It’s been a while.

ANYWAY. This year was just too much. My job was eliminated due to Covid, so I was a stay-at-home-mom for a year. Then, in May, I went back to work, my son went to daycare, and I have been slowly getting back to normal.

TLDR: It was a hard year and I didn’t have the brain power or desire to blog. I barely even read. The last six months have been spent on Animal Crossing and BOTW. I’m 28 books behind on my Goodreads challenge.

And I don’t care.

The books I have read have been more carefully selected. They have been powerful and funny and sad. I made better reading decisions. After reading books that have touched me on a deeper lever, I want to scream at everyone to read them. And I think i’m ready to do that again.

I’m not going to set myself goals or expectations. I’m going back to reading things I love and then trying to force everyone I know to read them with me. I want to have discussions over a shared love of a story again.

I missed you all and I missed this community and the joy it brought me. So drop some recs in the comments and tell me what book made you the happiest this year.

Here is a quick breakdown of stories I loved so far this year.

  1. WELCOME BACK! It warms my heart sososo much to see you blogging again and I hope it offers the fun outlet with less stress this time around. I’m not reading much these days either, but I’ve read and loved For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten (I think you’ll love it so you should read it), A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson, That Weekend by Kara Thomas, and Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw.

  2. Welcome back! We’ve missed you! I just finished The Nature of Witches and it was so so good. some of my recent favorites are Dark Shores by Danielle Jensen, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman, and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

  3. Happy to see you back! I always love seeing these post titles show up in my inbox that are along the lines of “I’m Back!” Sometimes we all need the break from blogging. I’ve seen so many bloggers over the year become consumed by it where they liken it to a job. I guess since I’ve only had select publisher attention that I never received a burnout myself. Blogging is my happy spot in the shadows that hoover over my life, so I can’t fathom ever giving it up. I take vacation breaks or mental breaks from my run of commenting, like this week, but I’m back at it again today! Hope things have settled into a happy normalcy for you now and also happy to see you back in the blogosphere!

  4. Yay!! So glad that you’re coming back!! I have been part-blogging, but also part-hiatus. It’s been a time. I am also behind on my goodreads goal for the year, but I’ve been reading longer books too, so I also don’t care. 💕

  5. Welcome back!! It’s so great to “see” you!! I’m sorry you had such a shit go this past year, but I’m overjoyed that you’re coming out the other side. And I loved The Heart Principle too, no need to win me over on that one! 😉
