Top Ten Tuesday | New to Me Authors in 2020

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I read so many amazing books last year. This list was 14 long so I trimmed it a bit, but I’m really excited that I read from 14 new authors last year. Some of these had series that I just devoured and others were meaningful standalones. It’s important to me to switch up my reading so I’m glad to see so many new names.

Amanda Foody

I read Ace of Shades and King of Fools. Both are diverse and so exciting. I am not quite prepared for Queen of Volts.

Brit Bennett

The Vanishing Half was such an intense read. I love time jumps and this story spans decades and generations. It vividly shows the racial disparity and fallout of a twin passing as white and her sister living as a Black woman. Highly recommend.

Talia Hibbert

As a part of Smutmas, I read Merry Inkmas. I loved this romance so much that I have most of Hibbert’s books on hold at the library already.

Roshani Chokshi

I am obsessed with The Star-Touched Queen. It’s more lyrical than I usually prefer, but WOW. I also really enjoyed The Gilded Wolves and am excited to read the rest of that series.

Cinda Williams Chima

The Demon King was a really fun start to a series and I’m excited to keep going. She has multiple series set in this world so it’s going to be a long adventure.

Hannah Capin

I am never getting Foul is Fair out of my brain. Sometimes I just sit and dwell on it for a while.

Courtney Summers

I love the true crime style fiction that Summers writes. Sadie wasn’t one of my favorites, but I am still really excited for The Project to come out. I mean…CULTS.

Penelope Douglas

Who else has been personally victimized by the Devil’s Night series? I know I like bad boys, but Douglas really has me questioning my type sometimes.

Tayari Jones

I loved An American Marriage. It didn’t romanticize prison or false convictions. There was no false sense of a devoted wife waiting for years for a man she knew for a year.

Susan Dennard

I am 100% a Witchlands convert. This is such an addicting series and I will read anything that Dennard throws at me.

Have you read any of these authors? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Brilliant list! I love Britt bennet and I’ve always wanted to try amanda foody books (although they seem a little daunting!). I seem to be really bad at following the ttt prompts lol so this week I tried top ten bookish things that annoy me. Although there could have been SO MANY MORE 😫 Here’s my post in case you’re interested 🙂

  2. Oooh +1 for Tayari Jones! She was new-to-me in 2020 too, and I’m a total convert. Technically, I didn’t get to Courtney Summers until early 2021, but I’m a newly minted fan of hers, too!
