Top Ten Tuesday | Last 10 Books I Abandoned

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Well here is a topic that could make you love or hate me. For the most part, these aren’t books that I am cutting out forever. Most of them were a “not right now” kind of book.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

I bought this on BookOutlet on a whim. Superhero books and movies just aren’t really my thing so I don’t know why I bought it. I made it more than 100 pages before deciding it’s just not for me. The writing and characters are fantastic, so check it out if you are in to that. It’s just not for me.

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera

Remember how I said I wasn’t into superhero books? I need to learn my lesson apparently. I think I stopped at 10%, but I do have plans to revisit this one in the future.

We Are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo

I’m a couple hundred pages into this book. It’s sitting right next to the couch on the end table. I have just been at the same spot since March 29. I really was enjoying this book and just got distracted by some library books with actual due dates.

Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold

Okay, I read the first chapter and the writing is GORGEOUS. But this is some seriously intense and uncomfortable content so I had to put a pause here for a time when I am not overcome with post-baby hormones.

Shadow Frost by Coco Ma

I think the writing was a barrier for me on this one, but it was a while ago so I will have to revisit this.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Before you throw things at me, I stopped because I wasn’t feeling this as an audiobook. I have every intention to read it as a physical copy. I just don’t audio well.

Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco

It pains me to list this book, but it just isn’t for me. Which is 100% okay and I think it’s a fantastic book for tons of people. It just isn’t mine. It made me feel old, which is appropriate because I’m not a teenager! So do not let me abandoning it change your mind.

Normal Gets You Nowhere by Kelly Cutrone

Okay, this book I feel no remorse for leaving. I couldn’t get past the sex chapter. Yes, I agree that women should be liberated and able to talk about what they want. But telling a teenager that she should have lots of sex before settling down is pushing it too far. Maybe she doesn’t want to! Cutrone’s “I am right and everyone else can suck a dick” attitude turned me off from this book at 18%. This was disappointing because I really loved If You Have to Cry, Go Outside.

Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe

This was the audiobook I was listening to on my commute. Since I’m not commuting it was left by the wayside. It’s really interesting so I do plan to pick it back up if/when I resume my commute.

Into the Crooked Place by Alexandra Christo

I think I am at 50% of this book. It was really fun, but I think I was distracted. I will need to start over when I pick it back up

  1. Into the Crooked Place was on my list too. I can’t remember how far into it I was before quitting. It just didn’t hold my interest like I had hoped. Sad to hear Renegades made your list. I still need to read that one. I planned to binge it when it was a duology, then it became a trilogy and thought might as well wait still. Now here I am…haven’t even started it yet! Lol.

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!
