The Rundown
Honestly, I think that the true crime world is getting pretty saturated, so I don’t want to do the same thing that has been done super well by so many people.
Instead, I want to do a little summary and provide you with those resources. If you are intrigued, you have the best and brightest to listen to or read. I’m going to try to stay off of reddit because, while there are awesome ideas and facts found there, I don’t want to get into speculation or go down some of those rabbit holes.
I’m always interested in sharing ideas though so message me or comment about your thoughts or tell me which crimes you are interested in seeing. It doesn’t have to be murder!
HUGE CONTENT WARNING: This is about a serial killer, he committed atrocious crimes including rape, murder, dismemberment. I don’t go into those details, but the resources below are explicit. Some of them contain interview audio etc.
I had to start my true crime posts with the story that gave me the idea. I think I first heard about Israel Keyes on My Favorite Murder and it was terrifying. He went under the radar for so long and continues to do so. He was caught in Texas after the murder of Samantha Koenig, an 18 year old barista. He STOLE HER RIGHT OUT OF THE KIOSK. In front of people and on video.
Can you imagine someone kidnapping you in front of others and no one sees or says a thing? We feel safe around large groups and he stole that false sense of safety away.
After his arrest, prosecutors found out that he committed at least 2 more murders. A couple in Vermont, Bill and Lorraine Currier. The bodies were never recovered because the abandoned house he left them in was demolished. Had he not told officials, no one would have been able to find them or what happened to them.
He just got away with likely 11 murders. He committed suicide so we won’t ever know how many people he murdered. For Bill and Loraine, he dug up a kill bucket that he had buried in the ground 2 years before. The creep buried kill buckets all over the country and just waited until he felt like killing someone.
He didn’t have a type or a method. I think that is what scares me. We think of serial killers like Ted Bundy who preyed on young pretty women, but Keyes would take just about anyone. Age, gender, race… no preference. In a creepy confession he did say he preferred “lighter” people simply because it was easier for disposal. Yep, I almost peed myself too.
If you want to see these creepy interviews, many of them are on youtube and I have linked below.
