Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
Time for some Truth bombs? That’s okay, I’m into it. If you disagree, feel free to tell me. I’m all for everyone having their own opinion and standing up for it. LET US LIVE!!!
1 – I don’t love to read outside.
Bugs are a thing. And I sunburn easy. Leave the door open to the patio? Sure. But you will rarely catch me reading outside. Even though I have a chair out there for that purpose.
2 – I can’t deal with the Shatter Me series.
I tried audio. I tried physical. I tried kindle. This series is not going to happen for me.
3 – I hate taking notes, even though I do it.
Every time I flag a page I have to stop the story and I don’t like to stop! I make myself take notes because I have a bad habit of putting off writing a review for over 3 weeks.
4 – Audio books are impossible.
With the exception of books I have already read. New audio books I just have to assume I am going to get lost and confused and distracted.
5 – I LOVE Gone Girl.
I will die on this hill. That book was fucking awesome.
6 – The Darkling isn’t that great.
He might be the most overrated character of all time. We only like him because of who he didn’t turn out to be. Please see my next point about these characters.
7 – I love morally gray characters.
This is bad, but if I see a review where someone says they didn’t like it because the characters were “bad” or “confusing” know that I am immediately buying that book you hated.
8 – I used to dog-ear my pages.
USED TO. I have reformed.
9 – I can’t get into the GOT series. It’s not going to happen. #noragrets
10 – I read physical books in the bathtub like i’m tempting fate.
Hope you enjoyed that nonsense? Let us know what you thought in the comments!

Great list! I 100% agree with the Darkling – I don’t get the hype around him at all, he’s so petty. Also you’re not alone – I wish I enjoyed reading outside more, but I always burn and as soon as I open my book every wasp within a 5 mile radius comes to hang out.

I do with library books lol!

I buy bookmarks and always lose them so I’m either using a receipt or dog-earing them lol.

I have a pile of bookmarks and still use a receipt or sometimes part of a paper towel… lol

Apparently not being interested in GOT is not really an unpopular thing at all!

I can’t even imagine what Shatter Me would be like in audio form??? I read exactly 13 pages before I gave up, and all the strikethroughs must be bananas on audio.

Terrible. And whiny AF.

Exactly as expected then. Good.

I always read my paperbacks in the bath haha! Thankfully the only disaster I’ve had so far is dropping my bookmark in the bath, but thankfully it was laminated and made a full recovery!

I dropped my phone once, but I have had only success with books as well! We live on the wild side of life.

YES The Darkling is SO overrated. He hardly had any character development imo. And yessss morally gray characters are the best I love them. Great picks!💜

Thanks!! He is a cool character, but there are better villains IMO.

I feel the same way about bugs as you do, but I’m torn, because I love the IDEA of reading outside. I just don’t like sitting in grass/dirt or dealing with bugs. I have a porch, which is nice, but I also have outdoor cats that we care for which my neighbor abandoned, and the moment I sit down, I have two cats climbing all over me, so … not as relaxing as you’d think lol.
Number three is why I love reading on the Kindle, because I don’t have to stop to highlight something to remember for when I write a review. xD It’s glorious, but not always possible to read e-books, sadly.
Morally gray characters are my favorite! I do the same thing. If someone’s like, “These characters are awful and evil,” I immediately add the book to my TBR. xD And I could never get into GoT, either. So you’re not alone on that. Great list!
Here’s my TTT post.

I love reading on my kindle!! Well i use the app on my iPad, but e-readers are awesome for that!
Bugs and sun burns suck. I burn too easy for all of that.
And how can you deny the kitties?? I would end up not reading and just snuggling the babies.

Eh, app on your iPad is the same thing, really. xD I’m so lucky! I only burn on my face/shoulders, so as long as I slather sunscreen on those areas, I’m good!
I mean, you really can’t deny them. Even if you try, the black and white one shoves its face in your face and yells at you for not paying attention to it haha.

I don’t like reading outside much either. I’ve gotten a few sunburns (and more than a few bug bites) that way. The weather has to be just so for me to do it.
My TTT.

YES with Gone Girl. It could just be that it was my introduction to thrillers, but that book is amazing ❤

Yeah, audiobooks are a no for me too. I just can’t follow the story with them!

I get distracted so bad!

Yes! And then I have to listen to it again and again until any of the story sinks in. They’re just not for me.

I loved Gone Girl because of the twist. Before that, I found it boring. Nick was so unlikable.

I think they are all supposed to be unlikable, which is kind of what I loved lol.

Yeah, I got that in the end. 🙂

“I will die on this hill,” cracked me up! I enjoyed Gone Girl too.

Okay, some of these I do agree with. Outside reading, meh…I’ve got to be comfy when I read and generally outside is not comfy. The weather is NEVER agreeable where I am at, or if it is, I legit have zero time to read. The other large factor is I’ve nowhere comfy to read. Not going to bother investing in a chair of sorts to sit in on the 2-3 nice free days out of the year. Not a sound investment.
I am a notetaker myself. While it is gastly to have to pause for a moment to jot down some notes, I do it for help with my reviews and even more so I will have detailed notes on what happened so that I won’t be lost for when I venture to the next book in however many days, weeks, or years.
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

Sitting outside here isn’t a great option either. The weather almost never cooperates because it get so hot so quickly!
I really need to be better about my notes 😬

I can’t manage to take notes on my books, even though I should—I’m horrible about waiting too long to write reviews. :-0

*waves* I love Gone Girl too 🙂 ❤
In theory, reading outside is cool… in practice?! Well, i'm kinda with you. I'm ok to read on the beach, in a proper sun bed, under the umbrella. But otherwise?? Dunno, lying on a blankie on the grass is not comfy… sitting=back pain. Can't read on my phone/tablet cuz of the glare… Also, hayfever. So yea, so not so great 😀

It’s really overrated!

So with you on reading outside! The sunlight moving, the noise, the bugs, all of it – no thank you please. I will make an exception at the beach, sometimes, but other than that, you’ll never catch me outside (ha!) with a book.

I also make an exception for the beach, but only with LOtS of sunscreen!

I always like the IDEA of reading outside but it is always too bright and I can never get comfortable. There was one fall when I was camping in Tahoe that I read in a chair all comfy and alone but that was it.
I also struggle with audiobooks – my mind wanders SO MUCH. I essentially have to be driving, on a plane, or reading along with a physical/eBook copy.
Morally grey characters are my favorite and an insta-buy/TBR thing for me. Great list!

I LOVE morally grey characters!! Give me someone struggling with their morals! Give me someone who is unlikeable! Give me someone who acts good and bad and always decides what to do based on their own selfish wants and not based on what is right or wrong or socially acceptable! Give. Me. Morally. Grey. Characters. As long as they are well-done, I will eat them up like cookie dough.
