Alright, we all know the drill. It’s time to get rid of some of the junk on our TBR lists!
The Down the TBR meme was created by Lia (Lost in a Story) and is helping all of us to cut down on out TBR hoarding!
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 or 10 books (or even more if you’re feeling motivated enough). And of course, if you’re doing this weekly you’ll start where you left off the week before.
- Read the synopses of the books.
- Decide: keep it or toss it!
Coraline by Neil Gaimen
This feels almost like a classic, but to be perfectly honest, I don’t think that I will love it. I didn’t love reading Lemony Snicket as much as the movies and I feel like this is in the same vein.
Verdict: Remove
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
Every time I look at this book I get hearts in my eyes. Not only is it pretty, but knowing the date of your death? Totally up my alley.
Verdict: Keep
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon
I have read too many glowing reviews of this to remove it. It has to stay.
Verdict: Keep
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
I loved The Prisoner of Heaven and need to get this one bumped up in the timeline.
Verdict: Keep
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
So I may be making a weird decision, but is it okay to not want to read a book about a 13 year old? I have a hard time believing that I will connect with this story. Please tell me if i’m wrong because I like the idea of it.
Verdict: Remove
Looking for Alaska by John Green
This has amazing ratings and I trust you guys.
Verdict: Keep
The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy
I love everything this man writes. It stays.
Verdict: Keep
Girl at War by Sara Novic
This book sounds so incredibly intense. Croatia and war and secrets? I’m in.
Verdict: Keep
Love You More by Lisa Gardner
It sounds really interesting, missing child and murdered husband and all, but i’m not really into detective type books lately.
Verdict: Remove
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
This series has been recommended to me countless times and has awesome reviews. I’ll keep it for the next time I need a fantasy and a romance!
Verdict: Keep

I read The Knife of Never Letting Go in my Young Adult Literature class in the spring of 2011. You’re not wrong, by the way. I enjoyed it as part of the class, but I don’t think I would be interested in it now.

Good to know. It sounds good, but young.

I listened to the audiobook of Coraline and I really enjoyed it. I’ve also read Looking for Alaska and I thought that one was ok.

I would have been heartbroken if you’d removed The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time and The Immortalists, I’m so relieved they made the cut! 😉👍🏼
I couldn’t resist the temptation to have a look at my own Goodreads list this way, and all 5 are definitely staying: I Am Malala, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Waiting For Godot. 🙈😅 I don’t know if that means I’m really good at keeping my TBR tight, or whether I’m just a book harlot.
