Description
From Goodreads
“In places that know more about heaven and hell than we do, you have a reputation, Gabrielle. To them you are known as the devil’s consort.”
When a body shows up near Peel Academy, all signs indicate the killer is a vampire. Ravaged throat, body drained of blood. At least that’s all it appears to be when the Politia, the supernatural police force, assigns Gabrielle to the case. Now it’s Gabrielle’s job to figure out who did it.
But after a second body turns up with the same lethal wounds, it’s clear that a serial killer is stalking the island. The murders have compromised the truce between the Politia and vampires, and as long as the killer roams free, it is in danger of dissolving. If that happens, no vampire is safe from persecution, not even Gabrielle.
Now Gabrielle must team up with Andre, her soulmate and the one person she’s tried to stay away from, to investigate the murders before the truce dissolves. And keeping her distance is proving to be impossible.
But Gabrielle has a bigger problem. The world of the dead know about her, and their whispers hint that something is coming for her. And it’s coming soon.
Our Spoiler Free Review
If you haven’t read The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa or our review of it then we’d recommend you stop reading this and go do that. We don’t want to spoil the series for you so far!
This book wasn’t as good as The Unearthly in our opinion but it was a lot more fun. Mostly because Oliver is the best friend all girls should have. Case in point this quote:
“If he so much as tries to lay a finger on you, I’ll glitter bomb the shit out of him.”
If you don’t have a best friend that threatens to glitter bomb the shit out of your enemies are you even living? Oliver made this book enjoyable and we would read an entire series just about him and his glittering bombing shenanigans.
In typical Thalassa fashion this book is full of mystery, brutality, and relationship drama. The story revolves around Gabrielle and Andre trying to solve a series of murders of supernaturals who are drained of blood and life. Meanwhile, they are attempting to salvage their relationship and save Gabrielle from the Devil. Sounds exhausting right? Add in vague riddles, creepy dreams and seers who are losing their shit and all together this book is a mystery. But, what this story was missing for us was less badass ass kickery from Gabrielle. We loved Gabrielle’s ruthlessness in The Unearthly and want more ass kicking in the next book.
Andre is still his barbaric caveman self, but we see him becoming more human with Gabrielle’s influence which made us happy. He has the makings of an amazing book boyfriend and we can’t wait to see what he does in The Cursed.
