Jess’ Reactions

You guys I am going to say this and I know it’s going to make you all mad…

I’m on team Maven.

Take a minute to process if you need to. He is a POS, but I need a comeback from him. I suffer from the same Maven-disorder that Mare does. I just want so badly for him to be the best. Probably not going to happen, but a girl can dream! His plotting and planning are amazing to watch. Ending the war, bringing people together and it’s all a LIE. Brilliant really. I like the way his twisted mind works. Also, I have some sympathy for the fact that he was brainwashed for like 20 years. I couldn’t stop cringing thinking about poor baby Maven trying to learn how to walk. Eek.

Cal on the other hand. Cal can go fuck himself. I’m with Cameron:

“The fallen prince is exhausting.”

He had way too many opportunities to do something, anything. But no, he pouts around and refuses to make any decisions except to just SCREW MARE OVER.

I’m so done with this boy.

Mare, my girl… Dang. This was not a good few months for you. But I applaud her for getting in touch with her feelings and asking Cal for what she wants. Although, I’m pretty sure she is in love with Maven. Her dark and twisty really comes out in this book, but she grows so much as well. This girl is strong!

When she flooded her bathroom to get the guards in I almost shouted “brilliant!” She uses her sarcasm like a weapon against Maven and her creepy guards and I adore that.

“‘No more shakes?’ I press on, fluttering a hand the way his body flopped.”

Cameron won me over more in this one as well. I hated her before and now I am pretty okay with her. Mostly because she quit being obnoxious and got some understanding about why Mare has made the decisions she made.

“No wonder she has personality issues. No one tells the girl the truth about anything.”

PREACH!

I just don’t want to have to see momma Samos again. A dress made of snakes is a hard no in my book.

 Teagan’s Reactions

I didn’t think I was ever going to make it through this story which I dubbed the never-ending story. Because never has a book taken me so long to read. The first half of King’s Cage was so bleak and dark. I felt like this…

giphy1

…The whole time. I mean how am I supposed to handle a girl’s mind being assaulted for weeks Mare being forced to betray fellow newbloods and just how bleak Mare was in this first part. Answer: I can’t! I just…can’t! It was just stressful guys.

Mare is badass. But I was NOT all about the ending and basically having to relive Season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy. We were SO close to have a solid relationship between Cal and Mare, just like Derek and Meredith but Cal has to go and mess it all up and be a complete moron. My heart is sad.

Unlike Jess, I am firmly NOT Team Maven. I’m sorry I just can’t support anyone who is so self-obsessed and cruel that they BRAND their initials on another human being. And while I empathize for the boy who was brainwashed he is very firmly in control of himself now and he’s a jackass. I don’t believe that he will turn good nor do I want him to be good in the end. I just want Mare to bring him down. Cal needs to let it go. Idiot.

I am slightly Team Evangeline though. I can’t be 100% on her team because she’s an elitist racist but I respect that she frees Mare and that she’s just trying to NOT be treated like a possession by her father. My heart broke a bit when her father basically auctions her off when she’s so close to a future with her soulmate. I want Evangeline to be good at the end of this.

I got so many Game of Thrones vibes in this one: Evangeline, Ptolemus and Elane basically pulling a reverse Margaery & Loras Tyrell stunt and Queen Anabel plotting like Lady Olenna. I was here for it.  And the battle scenes were intense and brutal. I approve, Aveyard.

Did anyone else get total Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum vibes from Rash and Tahir?!

    1. I think getting to experience her through her POV helped me understand and enjoy her more! I’m excited to read more of her in War Storm, too. I’d love to see her rebel against her dad who treats her like a possession he can trade!
